If you’re a homeowner considering solar energy through Duke Energy’s PowerPair program, it’s important to be aware of recent updates affecting available incentives, particularly regarding the Net Metering option. Here’s what you need to know.

What is Duke Energy’s PowerPair Net Metering?

Duke Energy’s PowerPair Net Metering is an attractive incentive for homeowners going solar. This program provides a straightforward, flat-rate energy credit for the solar electricity your home generates, simplifying your monthly billing and maximizing your savings.

Recent Updates: Duke Energy Progress Hits Capacity

Due to a surge in interest, Duke Energy Progress—a separate jurisdiction from Duke Energy Carolinas—has recently reached full capacity for its PowerPair Net Metering incentive. This means homeowners in the Progress jurisdiction can no longer enroll in the flat-rate Net Metering option and are currently being placed on a waitlist.

Why Duke Energy Carolinas Customers Should Act Soon

The majority of our customers at Tayco Electrical Solar reside within the Duke Energy Carolinas jurisdiction. As of now, Net Metering is still available in this region—but spots are filling quickly. Once Duke Energy Carolinas reaches capacity, new customers will need to enroll in the alternative Solar Time-of-Use option, which includes variable pricing based on peak and off-peak hours.

Solar Time-of-Use vs. Net Metering: What’s the Difference?

  • Net Metering offers a flat, predictable credit for solar-generated energy, ideal for homeowners seeking straightforward billing and consistent monthly savings.
  • Solar Time-of-Use (TOU) involves variable energy rates. During peak hours, energy costs are higher, while off-peak hours offer lower rates. Though still beneficial, this system requires careful management of your home’s energy use to optimize savings.

Secure Your Spot in Net Metering Today

With the high demand we’ve observed in the Duke Energy Progress region, now is the ideal time for homeowners in the Duke Energy Carolinas area to act. By securing your spot in the Net Metering program soon, you can ensure predictable, simplified solar savings for years to come.
