Frequently Asked Questions
What Should I Look Out For When Talking To Other Companies
Does Your Utility Offer A Good Solar Program?
Not every utility offers a good solar program, but some of them do. Just because you have a utility that may not have the most desirable program doesn’t mean that solar isn’t an option. We take pride in designing systems that can take advantage of the complexities of a utility program and benefit you.
Will I Save Money Going Solar?
As you generate your own electricity from the sun, going solar will save you money on your electricity cost if it’s designed and installed correctly. The amount of money you save month to month or annually will be determined by a variety of factors, including your current cost for electricity, your location, and the amount of sunlight you receive. Utility rates never go down so the longer you have your own solar system the more money you are going to save.
What Are The Incentives Of Going Solar?
Depending on where you live, the incentives for going solar can be different. Currently there is a federal tax credit of 30% which is a non-refundable tax credit meaning you have tax liability to take advantage. The only local rebates or incentives we have in the Carolinas is the South Carolina state tax credit for 25%. Non-financial incentives are also a factor you should take into account. Energy independence, environmental, and having clean energy to charge that EV.
How Much Does Solar Cost?
Solar costs vary based on things like how much energy you need, the size of the solar system, the complexity of the project, and the quality of the equipment that will be installed. There is no set answer for one person, we all use energy differently and have different goals. Quality, Service, and Price equals cost.
How Long Do Solar Panels Last?
Solar panels actually have a longer life than you’d think. Typically a panel has a useful life of 40-50 years with a 25 year power production warranty. It’s important to keep in mind that a solar panel’s life will depend on the quality of the equipment and how well it’s installed.
How Many Solar Panels Do I Need?
The answer to this is going to be determined by how much energy you use, how much useable space you have on your roof, the amount of solar access you have, and your utility program. Every home will be different in regards to how it is insulated, how many people are living in it, and how it uses gas versus electricity.
How Long Does Solar Installation Take?
Depending on the size and complexity of the system the physical install should only take one to three days. However, before a physical install can happen there are important milestones that must take place. The entire process usually takes 6-12 weeks. Often times the largest delay in the process is after installation takes place and the system has to be inspected by your county or city before they can notify the utility company. If something isn’t done right and the system can’t pass inspection, corrections will need to be made and strong relationships and knowledge of different jurisdictions can be a make or break on how quickly you can turn your system on after it’s installed.
