Duke Energy has officially launched its Power Manager® Battery Control program in South Carolina, offering homeowners with solar and battery systems a new way to earn monthly bill credits while supporting grid stability.
This program allows Duke Energy to remotely manage participants’ battery systems during periods of high electricity demand. On average, control events will occur 30 to 36 times per year, primarily during peak demand.
Key Benefits
- Monthly Bill Credits: Participants can earn about $6.50 per kW of battery discharge capacity per month. This can total between $17 and $52 per battery monthly, adding up to over $600 annually depending on system size.
- Home Backup Priority: Systems will never be drained below 20% and can still provide emergency power for the home.
- Flexible Participation: Customers may opt out of up to four events each year without penalty.
How It Works
- Eligible homeowners enroll through Duke Energy or an approved installer.
- Duke sends a remote signal during control events to manage battery charge and discharge.
- Customers earn monthly credits regardless of whether an event occurred that month, as long as they remain enrolled.
This program supports Duke Energy’s broader goals of clean energy integration and grid reliability, while providing financial incentives to solar and battery system owners.
